Chael Sonnen has suddenly made Bellator interesting again after signing with the promotion earlier this week. Sonnen didn’t take long to call out some potential opponents such as former UFC light heavyweight champ Tito Ortiz. Sonnen and Ortiz fought in the UFC at the same time but never faced off because the two fought in different weight classes, Ortiz at 205 and Sonnen at 185. Now that “The Bad Guy” is in Bellator he will fight at 185, 205 and even heavyweight if he can get Fedor in the cage.
After being called out by Sonnen Ortiz wasted little time responding to the challenge on Twitter.
So "The Bad Girl"@ChaelSonnen calls me out!Payback is a great way 2 end of my career.Welcome 2 @BellatorMMA ass whippings come at a cost!👏🏼

“The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” is 2-1 in Bellator but lost in his last outing to light heavyweight champ Liam McGeary last September. Ortiz defeated Alexander Shlemenko in his Bellator debut and followed it up with a victory over Stephan Bonnar. Since losing to McGreary Ortiz has been healing up and has been hinting at retirement. At 41 years of age Ortiz could fight a little longer but with his history of injuries he likely won’t be fighting one or two more times.
Sonnen hasn’t exactly been setting the MMA world on fire either going 1-3 in his last four fights with bad showing against Rashad Evans at UFC 167 in 2013. Since his last fight Sonnen has been serving a two year suspension after getting popped for HGH and EPO and has been running a successful podcast and doing analyst work for ESPN.
When Sonnen called out Ortiz he mentioned he would be ready in November if the fight was accepted. Now we just have to wait and see if Scott Coker wants to put it together.
