Chael Sonnen hinting that a fight with Wanderlei Silva has been signed

Chael Sonnen made waves in the MMA world when it was announced that he had signed with Bellator. Sonnen had been sitting on the sidelines serving a two year suspension after getting popped for performance enhancing drugs before signing with the UFC’s biggest competitor.

Sonnen and Tito Ortiz have been going at it on social media since his signing was announced but a fight has not been announced or even mentioned by Bellator or Scott Coker. Sonnen has mentioned fighting in California in November but as of now he doesn’t have an opponent.

Earlier today on his podcast, “You’re Welcome” Sonnen teased a fight with his former rival Wanderlei Silva. “The Bad Guy” wouldn’t go into specifics and said that was privy to information he couldn’t talk about on air. However Sonnen did drop this nugget.

“Wanderlei and I are going to be seeing each other a lot sooner than you would think.”

Silva and Sonnen were supposed to clash at UFC 173 after being coaches on The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3 but “The Axe Murderer” ran from a USADA drug tester sent to test him and was pulled from the card. Sonnen was then supposed to fight Vitor Belfort but he too had problems with a drug test and then he was suspended.

Right now Silva is suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission and if the fight was to happen it would likely take place in Japan where they aren’t under the Commission’s jurisdiction. Silva is currently signed to Rizin but they have a working relationship with Bellator and Scott Coker.

Sonnen’s deal with Bellator is for four fights and he will be facing big names when he steps into the cage. The former UFC #1 middleweight contender has had three shots at a title in the promotion but lost to Anderson Silva twice and Jon Jones.
