Amateur MMA is thought to be the safest form of fighting but tonight a fighter lost his life after a sad night in Louisville, Kentucky. Amateur heavyweight fighter Donshay White passed away after a fight at Hardrock MMA 90 tonight after a bout with Ricky Muse.
White competed in the second bout of the show which was held at Derby Park Expo Five. He lost by TKO halfway through the second round and went to the back where he collapsed. In the backstage area White lost consciousness and was taken to the hospital. It’s not known if he died at the venue, in the ambulance or the hospital.
The show ran for two more hours and had seven more fights before the promoter and the Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Commission agreed that the show should be canceled. The Commissioner Todd Neal was present at the event.
White was 1-0 as an amateur and had not competed since he beat John Johnson in November 2015.
This is all unfolding and more will come out in the coming days. I’ve been around Hardrock MMA and the Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Commission in the past and they are always putting fighter safety first. This is very sad and our prayers are with the family of Donshay White tonight.
