2017 Summerslam Predictions

Jason Jordan and The Hardy Boyz vs The Miz, Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas

An untimely injury to Scott Dawson forced the Hardys into a rushed 6 man tag match at Summerlam with Jason Jordan to face off against the Miztourage. I’m glad it worked out to get he Miz on the show but anyone who thinks the good guys aren’t winning the opener of the show has another thing coming.

Hardys and Jason Jordan win it.

Akira Tozawa vs Neville for WWE Cruiserweight Title

The WWE cruiserweight division is about as vibrant as the WCW cruiserweight division is right now. Considering WCW has been our business for 16 years, that should tell you something. No one really cares who wins and I’m thinking Neville gets the belt back at Summerslam.

The New Day vs The Usos for SmackDown Tag Team Championship

New Day has gotten stale and I’m hoping Summerslam is where they break them up. However, I don’t see it happening. The New Day sell t-shirts and merchandise for Vince McMahon so I’m picking them to retain the belts.

Big Show vs Big Cass with Enzo Amore in a shark cage

Big Shows has stated publicly that he’s about to retire. I don’t see the WWE putting him over on one of their biggest pay per views of the year on a guy that they see money in longterm. Big Cass is the future and Big Show is on his way out. Big Cass gets the win.

Randy Orton vs Rusev

Rusev should be in the spot Jinder Mahal is in right now but an unfortunate shoulder injury has slowed down the career of “The Bulgarian Brute”. Since Randy Orton is wanting to work a reduced schedule I’m thinking that the WWE is going to put Rusev over and start building him up to be a legitimate contender when they have a babyface champion again.

Naomi vs Natalya for SmackDown Women’s Championship

I think Naomi retains here and then Carmella comes out and cashes in her Money in the Bank briefcase to leave with the title. The WWE needs to do something shocking here to get fans to stay tuned instead of going to the bathroom during a 5 or 6 hour show. Carmella leaves with the belt.

John Cena vs Baron Corbin

John Cena is about to head off to Hollywood to film a new Transformers movie. Baron Corbin is the future and has plenty of incentive to beat Cena after the former champ cost him his title opportunity when “The Lone Wolf” cashed in his briefcase last week. Baron Corbin wins clean, possibly even hurting Cena causing him to be off TV for a while so he can work on the movie.

Finn Balor vs Bray Wyatt

We got to see this match on Monday night with Wyatt winning. Now we will get “The Demon King” at Summerslam to even the score. This match should feel bigger but after seeing the two go at it so often in recent months it’s lost it’s sizzle. I’m hoping Wyatt can pick up a win to carry the momentum over from his wins over Seth Rollins last month but deep down I know Balor gets the win here.

Alexa Bliss vs Sasha Banks Raw Women’s Championship

This match was thrown together after Bayley injured her shoulder. I don’t see the WWE cutting the legs out from under Bliss who is the hottest girl on the RAW roster right now. Bliss retains.

Sheamus and Cesaro vs. Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins for Raw Tag Team Championship

There are two things certain in life, death and taxes. Add one more thing to the list, Ambrose and Rollins win the tag titles at Summerslam. Together Ambrose and Rollins are money for the WWE and will sell a lot of merchandise. Eventually when they get with Reigns again they will draw even more money. Sheamus and Cesaro are good as tag champs but Ambrose and Rollins are on the next level in Vince McMahon’s eyes and will leave with the belts.

AJ Styles vs Kevin Owens for United States Championship

It seems like Styles and Owens have been feuding all year. I’m pretty much ready for the feud to be over with and both guys can move on to something different. Styles wins and we get a Kevin Owens vs Shane McMahon feud for the fall.

Jinder Mahal vs Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE Championship

Jinder Mahal has quietly become of the best success stories in pro wrestling in 2017. He’s stepped up his game and done a great job as the heel champ who has to have his henchmen do his dirty work so he can retain the title. I’m hoping he can retain here but I have a feeling that since the WWE has invested so heavily in Nakamura and he is supposed to get such an elaborate entrance that he’s going over. I’m picking Nakamura to win the belt.

Fatal Fourway: Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns vs Braun Strowman vs Samoa Joe for WWE Universal Title

The WWE has done such a good job at making everyone think that Lesnar is leaving that I think he will actually lose then not leave right away. He’ll just take time off like he always does in between pay per views.

I’m hoping a heel Shield reunion ends up costing Lesnar the belt but I think that is too good of an idea for the WWE to actually do it. I’m picking Braun Strowman to leave with the title in controversial fashion. Lesnar can leave and then come back in November for Surivor Series. I don’t think Lesnar goes to the UFC until next year when his contract is up. He will need time to get in fighting shape and get in a training camp before fighting Jon Jones.

With Strowman as the champ we end up with Reigns or Samoa Joe vs Strowman for the next few pay per views until Lesnar returns to reclaim his belt.
