After missing weight at UFC 221 Yoel Romero wouldn’t be allowed to win the UFC interim middleweight title but he could still make a statement and potentially get a rematch with champ Robert Whittaker with a win. And that’s exactly what he did.
After starting out a little slow Romero came out fast in the third round and dropped Luke Rockhold with a big left hand. Romero followed it up with another big shot and the ref stepped in to save the former champ’s life. Check out the highlights below.
With the win Romero is in a weird position. He lost to Robert Whittaker last year but will get the next title shot considering he beat Rockhold and Michael Bisping has lost two straight. Whittaker has been out with a staph infection but has resumed training and should be ready to go sometime this summer.
Whittaker and Romero fought last July with Whittaker picking up a unanimous decision. Whittaker was able to ride out the early storm from Romero and won the last three rounds of the five round title fight to win the interim title. Now the two men will get ready for round six.
