Ever since making their debut the night after Wrestlemania 32 in Dallas Enzo Amore and Big Cass have been one of the most popular tag teams in the WWE. Enzo is a star but his size really limits how much success he can have in the promotion. It’s no secret that Vince McMahon loves bigger guys and at 5’10 Enzo is never going to be seen as a top guy. Big Cass however, at 6’10 (billed at 7 foot tall) will be a main eventer one day.
But how do we get Cass to the main events? He has been in the WWE for less than a year and will still have to pay his dues with Enzo for another year or so but he won’t get there in a tag team. Eventually one of them will have to turn on the other.
The easiest way to do this is have Cass turn on Enzo. The WWE could set up an angle where Cass is getting jealous of Enzo stealing the spotlight every night on the mic. They could tease some tension where Cass gets frustrated when Enzo costs them matches. It would be easy to set up a title run for them starting at Wrestlemania 33. They could have Enzo and Cass hold onto the belts for most of the year then around Survivor Series Enzo gets pinned and they lose the belts. Cass could get angry and walk out on his partner. The next night on RAW Cass could walk out and apologize to Enzo. When it seems that everything is good between the two Cass picks him up and power bombs him through a table and out walks Cass’ real-life girlfriend Carmella. The power bomb can lead to some time off for Enzo. WWE should keep him off TV for a while and let Cass become a top heel in the meantime with his woman by his side.
With Carmella Cass can step out of Enzo’s shadow and become his own man. And with Carmella it would add something new to his character. At the 2018 Royal Rumble Cass can win the battle royal to earn a title shot at Wrestlemania 34. At Mania Cass pins Seth Rollins to become the new champ and establish himself as the top guy in the WWE. The next night on RAW Enzo comes out to a massive pop and you have a feud that could last for two or three months between the former partners.
The WWE could just split the guys up and keep them both as babyfaces. It’s happened before. Jim Niedhart never feuded with Bret Hart when the Hart Foundation dissolved in the early 90s. Vince McMahon could move Enzo to Smackdown and leave Cass on RAW. Enzo could even move to 205 Live and try his hand in the Cruiserweight division. Enzo could win the crusierweight title and carry it for a long time due to his over the top personalty and mic skills.
Another option is to turn Enzo heel. This is harder to do due to his popularity. He would have to align himself with another WWE superstar to really make it work. Have Enzo come out with someone like Samoa Joe to destroy Cass. Enzo could say he carried Cass and was tired of him riding his coattails. That’s harder to do because, seriously, who is going to boo Enzo?
There still is a lot of money to be made with Enzo and Cass as a tag team so don’t expect them to split up in the next year. They haven’t won the tag titles and as the tag team champs they will sell a lot t-shirts on WWEShop.com and put a lot of butts in seats. But a break-up will come because Cass will be champ one day. It’s only a matter of time.
