Tito Ortiz submits Chael Sonnen at Bellator 170, announces retirement

Things started out great for Chael Sonnen at Bellator 170. He had Tito Ortiz in a bad spot and appeared to have the former UFC light heavyweight champ in a choke but Ortiz survived and eventually submitted Sonnen early in the first round via rear naked choke.

After Sonnen tapped Ortiz refused to release the submission until the ref John McCarthy stepped in and pulled him off of “The Bad Guy”

Ortiz let his son lay his gloves in the middle of the cage to symbolize his retirement and vowed that he is done fighting. As he announced his retirement he thanked his mother, kids, his girlfriend and Scott Coker before walking out of the cage for the last time.

With the win a 41 year old Ortiz rides off into the sunset having won three of his last four fights in the Bellator cage. Many thought he was done after washing out of the UFC in 2012 but “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” leaves on top, on his terms having defeated one of the biggest draws in the modern era of the UFC.
