It was a big night for Bobby Roode last night in San Antonio as he defeated Shinsuke Nakamura for the NXT Title at NXT TakeOver: San Antonio. It wasn’t necessarily a clean win as Nakamura played up an injury angle and Roode capitalized to get the victory.
Nakamura hit the Kinshasha but due to an injured knee he was not able to cover Roode for the win. Instead it allowed the challenger time to recover and hit a Glorious DDT but Nakamura managed to kick out. Roode then applied a half crab and hit another big DDT to finally get the pin on the champ to win the belt to end the show in San Antonio.

It will be interesting to see what the WWE does with Nakamura and if he will be in the Royal Rumble tonight. Now that he’s dropped the strap there really isn’t anything holding him back in NXT. We know that Vince McMahon likes to have guys debut in the Rumble and if the rumors are true that Kenny Omega isn’t coming to the WWE Nakamura could get an opportunity to get promoted to the main roster.
The only problem with bringing Nakamura up is that by having an injury angle at the end of Takeover that cost him the belt it’s hard to justify bringing him in for the Rumble and explain that he’s perfectly fine and cleared to compete when he looked to be in very bad pain at the end of Takeover.
It’s thought that Samoa Joe will make his debut tonight since he’s been on NXT TV for a while.
The only way to know for sure if Nakamura will be in the Royal Rumble match is to tune in tonight on the WWE Newtork to find out.
