Going into Extreme Rules last night in Baltimore no one really knew which way the WWE was going to go in the main event featuring a five way main event featuring Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Finn Balor, Bray Wyatt and Samoa Joe. Reigns was never taken seriously as a contender since it was thought his epic showdown with Lesnar will take place at Wrestlemania 34 in New Orleans next spring. Rollins had faced Lesnar once before in 2015 but the Undertaker appeared and we never got a finish. Balor, Wyatt and Joe had never faced “The Beast” before. Balor and Wyatt were thought to be the favorites but in the end Joe came out on top at Extreme Rules and will now move on to face Lesnar at Great Balls of Fire next month.
Joe talked to about the matchup after Extreme Rules and talked about taking himself to a dark, violent, place to prepare for the former UFC heavyweight champ.

Hardcore fans love Joe and are thrilled to see him get such a high profile match against Lesnar on a pay per view. Joe made his NXT debut two years ago and was only promised an opportunity in NXT which eventually led to him being called up earlier this year before Wrestlemania 33. Prior to signing with Vince McMahon Joe had been on the indy circuit before landing in TNA in 2005. He would stay there for ten years before leaving in 2015.
Joe vs Lesnar should be a fun, stiff match. Both men have very physical styles which should be a lot of fun to watch. Lesnar will be a big favorite to win since it’s thought he will keep the belt until next year when he ultimately loses it to Roman Reigns at Mania.
Great Balls of Fire will air live on the WWE Network on July 9. The event will take place in Dallas. No other matches have been announced but we will get a sense of where McMahon wants to go with guys like Reigns, Dean Ambrose, and Finn Balor tonight on RAW.
