Roman Reigns vs Kevin Owens Changed to No DQ at Royal Rumble

Last night on RAW it was announced that Kevin Owens vs Roman Reigns WWE Universal Title match at the Royal Rumble has been changed to a no disqualification bout. Reigns defeated Chris Jericho by DQ on the show after Kevin Owens jumped in to save Y2J from losing the United States title.

Although he was double teamed Reigns wound up turning the tide and put Owens in the shark cage that will hang over their match Sunday at the Rumble. At the Royal Rumble Jericho was will be suspended over the ring in the shark cage so he can’t interfere in the match.

After the no-DQ stipulation was announced Reigns got on Twitter to taunt Owens and imply he was going to leave San Antonio with the WWE Universal Title.

Going into the Royal Rumble many experts think that Reigns will win the belt and go onto headline Wrestlemania 33 against whoever wins the Rumble match. But by adding the stipulation the WWE is teasing that somehow Owens will be able to cheat and retain the belt. I’m not buying it. I think Reigns still wins and it frees up Owens to move onto a feud with his best friend Chris Jericho. The WWE has been building up to a big match between the two after spending most of 2016 together. It makes the most sense to do the match at Mania in April.

There have been rumblings that Undertaker will win the Rumble. If Vince McMahon wanted to pull the trigger on Taker vs Reigns at Wrestlemania 33 that would be worthy of having in the main event of the show. It would be interesting to see if Reigns became the heel since no one is going to boo “The Dead Man” in what could be his last Wrestlemania match.

We will have to tune in Sunday to see which direction the WWE goes.
