After all the hoopla of Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather it was only a matter of time before Nate Diaz chimed in with his two cents. And in typical Nate Diaz fashion he didn’t disappoint. Diaz took to Instagram earlier this week to take shots at not only McGregor but UFC President Dana White as well.
Diaz shocked the world last March went he stepped in on short notice and submitted McGregor at UFC 196. McGregor was originally scheduled to fight Rafael Dos Anjos for the UFC lightweight title but an injury forced the match to be scrapped. After Diaz shocked the world the UFC did a rematch five months later in which “Notorious” won a majority decision. Two judges gave the fight to McGregor 48-47 while one ruled it a 47-47 draw. Diaz has gone on record stating that he thought he won the extremely close fight and has vowed to sit out until the UFC gives him a rematch.
A Diaz-McGregor trilogy fight makes a lot of sense but with the brash Irishman holding the lightweight belt he would likely have to defend it against a top contender when he returns to the Octagon once he is done boxing Mayweather. But with all the money he’s making why would McGregor come back? A third fight with Diaz might be enough to bring McGregor back to the UFC to win the rubber match to end their fued once and for all.
Diaz has been offered fights since his lost to McGregor last August but isn’t motivated to fight anyone other than his Irish rival.
We’ll have to tune in to McGregor vs Mayweather to see if Diaz shows up to challenge the winner. Diaz has talked about boxing professionally and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him show up in Las Vegas to crash the party next month.
