Will he or won’t he? That’s been the question hardcore wrestling fans have been asking since Kenny Omega announced he was going to take some time off after tearing the house down at Wrestle Kingdom last month. AJ Styles made headlines when he left New Japan around the same time last year to make his debut at the Royal Rumble and many thought that Omega would do the same.
However, Omega announced earlier today on Wrestling Observer Radio that he is staying with New Japan.
If it’s true it would be a shame. A faction of Finn Balor, AJ Styles, Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson, Shinsuke Nakamura and Omega have the potential to become an NWO-like faction that could make waves in the WWE. WWE programming has gotten stale and a Bullet Club appearance would shake things up. Imagine a scenario where Balor, Styles, Omega and company hit the ring in the Rumble and throw everyone out and take over. It’s never been done and would be a lot of fun to see what the WWE could do with the faction.
It could all be smoke and mirrors and we do see the Bullet Club member Sunday at the Rumble. Omega is scheduled to wrestle in Chile on Saturday but I wouldn’t put it past Vince McMahon to still fly him in just to have him debut in Houston at the Royal Rumble to get a massive pop from the crowd and get fans online talking. There aren’t many top free agents left for McMahon to go get but Omega is one of them after his time in New Japan.
We will have to tune in Sunday to see if Omega shows up. If he is to be believed we won’t see him but the crowd will go crazy if he comes out and makes his debut against guys like Baron Corbin, Undertaker and Brock Lesnar in the Rumble match Sunday night.
