Kelvin Gastelum is back in the mix in the UFC middleweight division after knocking out Michael Bisping at UFC Fight Night 122 in Shanghai earlier this morning. Gastelum made quick work of the former champ, knocking “The Count” out halfway the first round.
Check out the video of the first round below.
Bisping falls to 30-9 and suffers his second loss this month after losing the UFC middleweight belt to Georges St. Pierre in New York at UFC 217. “The Count” took the fight on short notice after Anderson Silva got popped by USADA and was removed from the card. Bisping had talked openly about wanting to retire next year in London. The former champ has been fighting professionally since 2004 and made his UFC debut in 2006 after competing on The Ultimate Fighter. Bisping will be missed and is a huge draw for the UFC, especially in the UK where the fans love their fellow countryman.
Gastelum will now likely get a big fight against a top contender at 185 with the win over Bisping. He called out interim champ Robert Whittaker but it’s not known if GSP will defend his newly won title against him instead. It’s more likely Gastelum will get someone like Luke Rockhold or Yoel Romero instead.
