Ronda Rousey has been keeping a low profile since getting knocked out at UFC 207 by Amanda Nunes. After a year off from fighting the world watched as the former champ returned to the octagon last month only to get KO’d in under a minute. Since then Rouey issued a statement about wanting to take some time to figure out her next move and then posting something on Instagram about hitting rock bottom.
Many think that Rousey is done fighting and you can put Joe Rogan in that column. Rogan has called all over her fights in the UFC and last week he talked with Bas Rutten and Mauro Ranallo on his podcast and said that he thinks Rousey has fought her last fight in the UFC.
“I don’t think she is. Amanda Nunes is a very, very dangerous puncher. She kicks and punches so (expletive) hard, and she has long arms. She puts you on the end of those long punches, and she dinged Ronda very early in the fight, and you could tell she was rocked.”
When pressed on a comeback in the octagon Rogan talked about picking the right opponent and not challenging for the title after a long layoff.
“If she does, she should come back in a calculated manner. Don’t just rush in and fight for the title like she did. I think that’s crazy. Taking a year off taking a head kick getting knocked out – where’s your head at? Was she 100 percent committed to this as far as training for the entire time off, or did she just get in really good shape over the last few months and had she been training at all before then?”
No one really knows what exactly Rousey is going to do. Her mother wants her to retire and walk away. And after making $4 million to fight Nunes at UFC 207 she could decide to quit and count her money on an island somewhere. We could see Rousey pop in the WWE working for Vince McMahon. She made an appearance at Wrestlemania 31 two years ago and had a blast in the squared circle. As a longtime fan she could come in for a big show like Wrestlemania 33 and then go away for awhile until it’s time for another big match that comes along with a huge paycheck.
We’ll have to wait and see what she decides to do next, if anything at all.
