Dana White confirms that Georges St. Pierre is back, lots of speculation on opponent

For the past two years Georges St. Pierre has been teasing fans with a return to the UFC. After defending this title against Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 in 2013 GSP walked away from fighting. He gave up his title and did his own thing for a while. There have been rumblings that he wanted to come back to the UFC but his sponsorship deal with Under Armor would keep him from competing in the octagon where he was required to wear Reebok attire.

All of that looks to be behind St. Pierre and the UFC now. Yesterday Dana White tweeted that the former champ is back and fans have been going crazy online.

With St. Pierre back in the fold you have to wonder what the UFC has in store for him. With new owners WME looking to see a return on their $4 billion investment you can expect to see GSP in a fight with another big name. Michael Bipsing and Anderson Silva have emerged as names that could face St. Pierre in his return. Bisping has been calling out St. Pierre for a while and a superfight with “The Spider” has been talked about for a decade.

If he intends to fight at weltlerweight you would think the former champ would get an immediate title shot against the winner of Stephen Thompson vs Tyron Woodley this summer. But other big names like Robbie Lawler and Donald Cerrone are easy to promote.

Another fight with Johny Hendricks isn’t out of the question either. Many fans thought that Hendricks beat GSP when they fought in 2013. St. Pierre won the fight but at after the fight his face didn’t look like it.

Nick Diaz is also another contender. Diaz has asked for a rematch after he lost to ‘Rush’ at UFC 158 and accused him of not making weight and being on steroids.

We will have to wait and see just who the UFC decides to put him in the cage with and I would expect it gets announced in the coming weeks.
