Conor McGregor has been talking about a potential fight with Floyd Mayweather for a year now and it still hasn’t happened. The fight is a longshot at best and UFC President Dana White is now saying that McGregor will face the winner of Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson at UFC 209 later in the year. TMZ caught up with him last week and got the official word.
“I don’t know where we’re at. We’re nowhere. We’re nowhere with it. I expect Conor’s next fight to be in the UFC, in mixed martial arts and the winner of Khabib vs. Ferguson.
Khabib Nurmagomedov has been calling out McGregor for two years but injuries have kept the fight from happening. If he beats Tony Ferguson next weekend we could see “Notorious” face his toughest test to date in the UFC.
McGregor has been taking time off due to the birth of his first child since winning the UFC lightweight title in November. He’s expected to return later this year to defend his belt.
