Conor McGregor has been telling anyone who will listen that he is going to become the UFC interim champion on Saturday. The Irishman is so confident he even offered to bet Dana White 3 million dollars that he will knockout Chad Mendes in the second round at UFC 189.
Dana White told MMAFighting.com all about it.
“You want to know how confident this kid is? I can’t even believe I’m going to say this, but, he told Lorenzo and I the other day ‘I’ll bet you $3 million I knock him out in the second round.’ I like to bet, I don’t know if I’m that willing to take that bet. When I tell you how extremely confident this guy is in himself, it’s fascinating. He is a very unique, fascinating person to listen to. Fun to listen to, and fun to watch.”
It sounds like White didn’t take the bet. Even if he did that would open up a new can of worms that the Nevada State Athletic Commission would have to look into. I’ve never heard of a promoter betting with an athlete on an MMA card before.
According to Vegas McGregor is the favorite at -165. Mendes is +140 but that could fluctuate by Saturday evening.
McGregor will face Mendes in the main event of UFC 189 Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Robbie Lawler will defend his UFC welterweight title against Rory MacDonald in the co-main event.
