Right now Chris Jericho is in the midst of a monster push that is likely going to result in a match with Kevin Owens at Wrestlemania 33. On RAW Monday Jericho pinned Roman Reigns in a 2 on 1 handicap match that featured he and Owens against Reigns. Jericho won the belt and will be involved in Owens and Reigns match for the WWE Universal Title at Royal Rumble. “Y2J” will be suspended above the ring in a shark cage. It’s expected that Owens will lose the belt and it will result in a falling out between the two that will result in a match at Mania in April.
Owens and Jericho have been together since last spring when the two became best friends and began taking on the RAW roster together. Owens went on to win the belt on RAW after Finn Balor go hurt and the two have been a top draw ever since. The WWE teased some friction between the two late last year but ultimately they stayed together and Jericho helped Owens keep his best against Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins at every turn.
Last week on Jericho’s podcast, “Talk is Jericho” he mentioned he would be touring with his band Fozzy beginning in May. This means that once again Jericho will be taking a leave of absence from the WWE. The former champion has done this in the past and each time he comes back he reinvents himself and comes back refreshed and with a slightly different character.
The latest rendition of Chris Jericho is red hot despite not winning many matches on TV. Jericho came up with “The List of Jericho” and became one of the biggest stars in 2017. He’s a smarmy scarf-wearing heel that is attached at the hip with Owens and it’s gotten over. He had won every title in the WWE except the United States belt which he won last week to become one of the most decorated WWE performers of all time.
Jericho was supposed to leave after his Wrestlemania 32 match against AJ Styles but was having so much fun working with Owens that he decided to stick around. But with gigs with his band on the books Jericho will finally step away after a big showdown with his best friend at Wrestlemania 33 in April.
We will likely see Owens beat Jericho and continue to further himself as one of the top heels on RAW. We might even see Jericho put his career on the line and that way Owens can retire Jericho and keep him off TV for awhile until he’s done with music and ready to come back to the WWE.
We will have to tune into the Royal Rumble later this month to see exactly how the WWE splits Owens and Jericho up and puts them on a collision course for Wrestlemania 33.
