Kimbo Slice vs. James Toney possible for April 17th show at Vanderbilt

As we reported earlier today quoting a source at Vanderbilt University it looks like the UFC is coming to Nashville to drop a nuclear bomb on Strikeforce’s show at the Bridgestone Arena right down Broadway. Now according to Yahoo Sports it appears the UFC is lining up Kimbo Slice vs. James Toney for the show.

Yesterday the UFC took Kimbo Slice vs. Matt Mitrione off it’s UFC 113 card on UFC.com. They also announced the signing of James Toney. It makes perfect sense for the UFC to put the up against one another to counter Strikeforce’s programming on CBS. Jake Shields vs. Dan Henderson is an intriguing matchup pitting two of the best fighters against one another. Kimbo Slice is the UFC’s sideshow and ratings bonanza. Combining him with James Toney a former boxing champion will garner mainstream coverage from ESPN and other media outlets that may not cover the CBS show.

Taking into consideration the shows will be held a few miles apart and with the UFC’s show in a smaller venue, Memorial Gym, which holds a little over 14,000, it should sell out where as the Bridgestone Arena holds almost 20,000 will have a harder time reaching capacity.
