Gray Maynard addressed being passed up for a shot at BJ Penn’s UFC lightweight belt at UFC 112 on his website. Dana White made the decisiont to give the shot to Frankie Edgar, a guy Maynard beat in April 2008.

I think Frankie is a great opponent for BJ and I’m excited to watch them fight. I would have loved the opportunity to fight for the belt, but I think timing was a big factor for me. When training for a championship fight, it’s usually a 10-12 week training camp. Which wouldn’t have given me any time in between my last training camp. I just need to stay focused and keep working hard towards my goals and the title shot will come. Best of luck to both of them, it’s going to be a great fight.
