Anderson Silva out of UFC 109

Anderson Silva recently had surgery to remove bone chips from his elbow and it’s not healing quite as fast as “The Spider” would like. Silva was scheduled to face Vitor Belfort at UFC 109 but now that has been scrapped.

There is no word on whether or not Belfort will fight on the card or the fight will be rescheduled for later this year. A Belfort vs. Marquardt fight makes sense if Silva is unable to compete for a while. Marquardt destroyed Damian Maia at UFC 102 to claim his spot as the #1 contender. All that changed after UFC 103 when Belfort walked through Rich Franklin and Dana White named him the #1 contender.
