Demico Rogers TUF Blog week 9

Hey everyone thanks for checking back for round one of the quarter finals. It’s a great match up this week with Justin and Roy. Team Rashad is faced with a difficult dilemma on how to train their fighters equally and fairly because they are all fighting each other. Our training went great because all of us were there to help Marcus in every way we could. I would have had no problem and actually wanted to train with some of Rashad’s guys but I think he asked us in the wrong way. He should have recommended an open training session where anyone and everyone could come in and work rather than asking us to join their team, Kimbo and I were kind of put in the spot. I am sure I could have benefited from training with them but I was not going to betray my guys.

Matt is still complaining that his brain hurts but he has cried wolf one too many times and no one is paying attention to him anymore. My mentality was to make sure I was ready to go if Matt was unable to fight. Kimbo’s knee was giving him trouble so he was not sure if he was ready to fight a kick boxer. I thought that James would have been a great match up for me because he has limited ground skills and wrestling and I am quicker on my feet than Shivers. Dana came by to see if Matt is going to be able to fight. Everyone is waiting to figure out once and for all if they are in or not but Matt is still stringing it along.

Tiki and Rampage came up with another prank to put chickens in Team Rashad’s coaches’ cars. They thought they would finally piss them off but Rashad and his coaches though it was really funny and ended up with even nicer rental cars than before.

Going into the fight between Justin and Roy I was really pulling for Justin. He is such a likable kid and works so hard. I have nothing against Roy he just expects it, Justin really wants it. Roy has very good ju-jitsu and an abnormally long reach for his build. His experience is going to give him an advantage. Justin is a great wrestler and has exceptional ju-jitsu defense. What he lacks in size and athleticism he makes up for with heart.

When round one began Justin showed he was there to fight and this was not going to be an easy win for Roy. He controlled the pace and landed several big shots against the cage. Justin clearly had Roy rocked a few times and moved forward the entire round. He definitely dominated round one and if I was scoring I would say Justin won that round 10-9.

Round two Roy’s veteran savvy comes into play. He used his jab and moved just enough to look better than Justin whose tank was running low. In my opinion Roy did not dominate round two as much as Justin dominated round one and I had that round 10-9 Roy. Out of all the fights on the show that were borderline this was by far the one fight that warranted a third round. Even if people thought Justin was too tired and would have lost the third round he still deserved the chance. This is MMA and anything can happen.

Congrats to Roy for moving on to the semi finals. This is obviously not the last you will see of Justin Wren. He is 22 years old with a ton of heart and determination. He is now training with Trevor Whitman and getting his hands on point. I had an opportunity to go train with him last month. I can already see the improvement; I can’t wait to get back out to train with him again. We have become good friends and training partners. I think that us training together will benefit both of us.

Thanks for reading. Check back next week for the Schaub and Madsen fight.
