Demico Rogers TUF Blog week 8

Hey everyone with this episode we complete the preliminary finals. As usual the show began with last weeks fight recap. Rampage broke down the door because he thought that the fight was one round to one round and was expecting a third. When it didn’t happen he lost it. When we got back to the house Junk immediately cracked a beer and started icing. Matt came stumbling in and went straight downstairs talking about how his brain hurt or something. After all the snitching and injuries no one really paid him much attention and he just sat in his closet for the rest of the night. This isn’t the end of Matt.

I have never seen someone who is so passionate about MMA as much as Marcus Jones. He doesn’t need to be here financially, this is not make or break it for him, he is truly here because he loves the sport. If he is not learning something he is helping someone learn. When we all arrived at the show you saw his cardio was terrible and his striking and wrestling were very limited. He came in every day twice a day and worked diligently on becoming well rounded. He is 35 years old and retired from football at around 30 years old due to injury. He had had so many surgery’s on his elbow he cant touch his forehead! You can imagine the kind of pain and soreness he felt after all of our team practices but you rarely heard him complain. He just wanted to work hard and get better. He is one of the guys I looked up to in the house he is the kind of guy this sport needs.

This matchup was interesting because Marcus is very good on the ground and his opponent Mike Wessel is just what his nickname implies a juggernaut. He charges forward and throw haymakers. Marcus in the past has been susceptible to overhand rights but we knew if he could get Mike to the ground he would be able to submit him. Some guys may be intimidate by Marcus’s size but not Mike he is tough, seasoned, and has fought high caliber opponents on short notice.

Back at the house aome guys from the other team drew pictures of Marcus and put them on the window to try and get into his head before the fight. He is a sensitive guy, hence the nick name big baby, however I think their plan backfired and it just pissed him off. For those of you who pay close attention to the show you notice that when Junk tells Marcus that they put pictures up of him his eye is not messed up. That is because Junk and Marcus fought on the same day but they had to make two shows out of it.

Going into the fight both of the guys have a lot on the line. They both left a lot to come to the show, more than most. They both know whats at stake and are looking for the win. Oh by the way, those were 4XL gloves that Marcus ripped through and they managed to squeeze on the 5XL gloves (the biggest size available). We were nervous going into the fight because Marcus was our last hope. We did not want to go 0-8. If anyone could pull it off it was Marcus. He is very intelligent and would not stray from the game plan.

The fight was pretty short and sweet. They came out and Mike threw some of his patented haymakers but none of them landed clean. Marcus was finally able to clench. Mike went for the trip and Marcus was able to fling him over with a hip toss. With Marcus in top control he tried to work a kimura to the side. Mike scrambled to base up and Marcus took his back. At this point if you watch closely Marcus let Mike turn into him without ever letting go of his right arm. The second Wessel turned over Marcus immediately threw on the arm bar. Fight over he baited him into that. I felt bad for Mike he worked so hard to get here and is must have been tough to be the only loss from his team. He had an extremely tough opponent in Marcus Jones.

Alright, we finally get our win!! Stay tuned the quarter final fights are good!
