Demico Rogers TUF Blog Week 5

Hey everyone thanks for checking back for my episode 5 blog. The show started out with a recap of last weeks fight between Brendan and I. Then let the drama begin.

Matt has been complaining about his shoulder, an old football injury, but still it trying to convince his coaches he is ready to fight. At this point his team is getting pretty fed up with him. The general consensus in the house is if you are hurt you sit if you are not you train, there is really no in between. At this point we didn’t know if this still stemmed from him being worried about fighting Marcus or if he was just playing games. This is not the last we will see if Matt’s antics.

Zak’s issues started when he was picked “after the camera guy” and it never got much better for him. I think once some of the guys realized that was not going to stick up for himself they laid into him pretty hard. I don’t know if I would say that he doesn’t belong there because before the show many said the same about me. I tried to use the opportunity in the house to show that I did belong. I am not sure that Zak felt he had anything to prove coming in and it showed. I think he thought he was one of the favorites. I am sure everyone saw Zak get choked out at training this is not the only time that happened to him at practice. Zak’s wrestling is good, he has a solid chin, and his top game is not bad either. He just has some trouble off of his back and he has a tendency to go to sleep in submissions easily.

Going into the fight I was not sure what to expect from Justin Wren. I heard he was a good wrestler and trained with Frank Mir. I was not too worried about Sims because he was a vet and knew he could handle himself. The game plan was simple going into the fight Sims was to use his jab and long range to keep Justin at bay. Justin however has good wrestling and was easily able to take Sims to the ground. With Sims on the ground we knew he was in trouble. Justin then passed to mount and was able to slip in an arm triangle and finish it. When Sims was in the arm triangle I knew he would not tap so I was wondering who was going to have to go in and wake him up. I know Sims was disappointed in his performance. He had a long layoff and wanted to show much better than that. There were definitely some winnable fights for Sims that was just a great pick by Team Rashad. Justin is a great kid with a bright future ahead of him. He was one of the nicer guys in the house and has a great attitude and wiliness to learn. I think you will definitely see more of him in the future.

So now we are down 0-5 but Rashad is running out of easy picks and we still have two of our best guys left, Marcus and Junk. Stay tuned! Until next week!

For those of you in the Seattle Area come watch the show with me Wednesday nights at The Liquid Lime in Kirkland at 8pm.
