Catching up with Tim Boetsch

What have you been up to since the Hamill fight?
Honestly, I have been taking it really easy. My first instinct was to hit the gym the day after my loss. But my trainer forced me to take a month off. Up to the Hamill fight I think I had been training for 7 months without a break. Monday it is back to the grindstone two a day workouts plus lifting three days a week and cardio four days a week.
How big of a factor was the altitude in Denver?
It was a huge factor! I take pride in my capacity for cardio type work and prior to the fight I felt I was in the best shape of my life. Well I found out shortly after the fight started that I was not adjusted. I gassed in about 3 minutes and didn’t recover at all in between rounds.
Looking back on the Hamill fight what are your thoughts?
I wish it were at sea level.
How excited where you to get the victory over David Heath?
I was pumped! Winning my UFC debut. Words can not describe that feeling.
Did you honestly expect to dominate him the way you did?
No not at all. I expected to set up a take down and ground and pound him. I fully expected to win but would have never guessed it would have one down the way it did.
When you first walked into the octagon at UFC 81 do you remember what you were thinking?
The first time I walked in the octgon was actually the day before UFC 81. I knew it would be dfferent from any other octagon I had fought in. I didn’t want to be overwhelmed on fight night so I made sure that I got in there and absorbed the feeling of being in the UFC Octagon. I remember when I first walked in I thought dang this thing is huge! There is a ton of room in there.
You took the fight with Vladimir Matyushenko on a few days notice. Had you had a little more time to prepare do you think it would’ve turned out differently?
If I had better hands for that fight I would have won.
Where do you train?
Right now I do most of my training in my father in-laws basement. We have a small mat room where we train very hard. I will soon be opening up a gym here in sunbury that will be a true mixed martial arts gym.
What is an average day for you like?
When I am training for a fight I wake up, drink a shake and head off for my morning trainng session. I come home chug another shake and eat breakfast. I then change my sons diaper and feed him breakast. I usually don’t work out again till our evening sparring session.
Who are some of your favorite fighters to watch?
Wanderleigh Silva, Dan Henderson, Chuck Lidell, Marcus Davis, and GSP.
Now that the UFC has a toy deal when can we expect to see a Tim Boetsch action figure?
Soon I hope!
Is there anything else you’d like to say to the fans?
Thank you for all your support and expect To see some exciting stuff from me in my next fight!!
